The Bass Clef

The Bass Clef indicates where 'F' below middle 'C' is located on the staff. The two dots are above and below the line for the pitch 'F'. It was originally a fancy letter 'F' and it can also be called an F Clef.

Bass Clef Note Names

• The second line down from the top of the staff is the pitch 'F'.
• When you go up, from one line to a space or a space to a line, you go up one letter of the alphabet. After you reach 'G' you start over with 'A'.
• The lines of the bass clef from bottom to top are G, B, D, F, A.
• The spaces, from bottom to top are A, C, E, G.
