Dynamics

Dynamics is referring to the loudness or softness of the music. Dynamics are shown in music through the use of dynamic symbols.

Using Dynamics

• The length of the symbols for decrescendo or crescendo indicate how long to take to make the change in volume.
• You can use the symbol, the name or the abreviation for decrescendo, diminuendo and crescendo.
• Decrescendo and Diminuendo mean the same thing.
• When subito is placed before a dynamic it means to make a sudden change in volume. sub. 𝆏 = suddenly quiet.
• Poco a poco placed before a dynamic change means to change the dynamic slowly. This term usually is only used before dim., decresc. or cresc. poco a poco dim. = slowly get quieter.
